“Children of the Civil Rights” documentary free showing Feb. 21
Julia's documentary “Children of the Civil Rights” was presented to a standing-room only audience at the Oklahoma History Center last Saturday night, February 7th. The film focuses on a group of young Black kids who sat at lunch counters and restaurants in Oklahoma City asking to be served over a six-year span from 1958 to 1964. Due to this initiative. all but one of the eating establishments in Oklahoma City voluntarily changed their discriminatory service policies prior to passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In the process, Oklahoma City became the site for the longest and most successful peaceful civil rights protest in the history of the United States.
Unfortunately, the February 7th screening date conflicted with a number of other events and a number of people simply weren't able to attend the film premiere. If you're interested, another showing of “Children of the Civil Rights” is scheduled as a feature of the Black History Month Film Festival. It will be shown at 3:00 Saturday afternoon, February 21st, on Screen 3 at the Tinseltown Theatre, 6001 Martin Luther King Avenue in OKC.
Admission is free. However, seating is limited to approximately 150 persons. Sequentially numbered tickets will be made available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. The film will be followed by a Q and A session between the audience and a panel of sit-in participants. The entire “Children of the Civil Rights” portion of the Film Festival will conclude by 5:00 p.m.
You're welcome to come join us.
