Ellen DeGeneres is well known for her outgoing personality, dances and her subtle but hilarious humor. More than anything, though, DeGeneres is known for her sexuality. While her television talk show, Ellen, commonly includes games and celebrity pranks, she always makes the time to discuss and promote awareness of LGBT issues and topics.
In 2003, Finding Nemo was released into theatres introducing to the public DeGeneres’s character “Dory” which was a smash hit. Now in 2016, the sequel is finally being released, Finding Dory, this time with DeGeneres’s character as the lead.
There have already been many questions raised about the film seeing that it might be the first Disney film to feature a lesbian couple. However, the latest controversy involving the film is that it is planned to include a transgender character.
In a recent interview DeGeneres said, “There's a stingray that's becoming sting-Rhonda, so there's a trans sting in the movie.”
This is groundbreaking and boundary pushing for most. However, the LGBT community is elated that they are going to not only be represented in a major motion picture, but that they are going to be represented correctly.
