In his early high school years, Aaron Wilder had a plan for his future. He was studying with two different violinists at the OKC Philharmonic and had plans to enroll in any college that could best prepare him for a future in classical music.
However, in 2010, Wilder was asked by a Facebook friend if he wanted to help on a local political campaign. He helped on that campaign and found a new passion…politics.
Wilder has gone on to work on many a campaign; local, state even tribal. Now he finds himself leading his own national campaign running for the Young Democrats of America (YDA) LGBTQ caucus.
“I feel I am best equipped to take this organization into the future,” said Wilder. “I believe that the national organization as a whole has to take drastic measures to save this group that has been so important to me. I don’t know where I would be without YDA.”
The Young Democrats of America is the largest youth-led, national, partisan political organization. Founded in 1932, YDA has mobilized young people under the age of 36 to participate in the electoral process, influenced the ideals of the Democratic Party, and developed the skills of the youth generation to serve as leaders at the local and national level for over 80 years.
“I’ve found a new life for myself,” adds Wilder. “I can literally go anywhere in Oklahoma and find friends in the Democratic party –as a matter of fact I can go anywhere in the nation and find friends in our party - it’s people who are trying to make a better place for people.”
Wilder will make his official announcement on April 14th in Little Rock, AR. “Our south-central region of YDA is a close family to me and I want to let them know first.”
The south-central region of YDA includes OK, TX, MO, AR & LA.
Elections will be held August, 2013 in San Antonio, TX. For more information or to donate to Wilder’s campaign, visit www.wilderyda.com.
