Brightmusic gives you a "Montage of Sound"

Come as you are and enjoy classical music in a relaxed family-friendly setting with Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble. This March, Oklahoma City’s Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble will present the fourth concert of its 2017-18 season with “Montage of Sound.” 

This concert is an ensemble of winds, and a single viola presenting an artfully-combined collection. These are significant-but-rarely-heard shorter chamber pieces by a heterogeneous group of 19th and 20th-century European composers. 

Works on the program are Gaetano Donizetti, a 19th-century Italian romantic composer, Trio for Flute, bassoon and piano. Franz Schubert, an early 19th-century Austrian romantic composer, Auf dem Strom, D 943, for tenor, horn and piano. Émile Paladilhe, a 19th-century French late-romantic composer, Solo pour Hautbois (Solo for Oboe), oboe and piano.

And there’s much more including Ralph Vaughan Williams, a late-19th to early-20th-century English composer, Four Hymns for Tenor, viola and piano. Madeleine Dring, a 20th-century English composer, Trio for Flute, oboe and piano. Benjamin Britten, a 20th-century English composer, Canticle III, “Still Falls the Rain,” op. 55 for tenor, horn and piano and Francis Poulenc, a 20th-century French composer, Trio for Oboe, bassoon and piano.

Brightmusic musicians appearing in this performance: Mark Neumann (viola), Parthena Owens (flute), Lisa Harvey-Reed (oboe), Rodney Ackmann (bassoon), Kate Pritchett (horn), Amy I-Lin Cheng, and Ruirui Ouyang (piano) and Andrew Ranson (tenor).

Brightmusic musicians are “truly exceptional artists.” They perform in Oklahoma City and abroad as soloists, in ensembles and with top symphony orchestras. Despite demanding schedules, each Brightmusic musician performs each concert to bring you their excitement and challenge of interpreting works for chamber ensemble.

Montage of Sound will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 127 NW 7th Street (at Robinson) in Oklahoma City. Getting a little culture was never easier because parking is easy and free right across 7th street.

Individual concert admission is $20 per ticket. Children, students and active-duty military personnel are admitted free with ID. 

And on April 17th, join Brightmusic for their final regular concert of the 2017-18 season with Old and New, a collection of 19th, 20th and 21st Century composers, including Samuel Magrill, a contemporary American composer who lives in Oklahoma City.
