Celebrate International Family Equality Day with 'Gayby Baby'

In celebration of International Family Equality Day (IFED), Supergravity Pictures is releasing the award-winning Australian documentary Gayby Baby on digital video services on Sunday May 1. From director Maya Newell, Gayby Baby tells the story of four young children - Gus, Ebony, Matt and Graham - being raised by same-sex couples in Australia. Told from the perspective of these four kids, we hear about the issues they face while the world debates marriage equality, what they think about having same-sex parents, and living a life no different than any other child in any other country."Gayby" is slang referring to a child of same-sex parents.

The film was banned by right wing conservatives from screenings in schools in New South Wales, Australia, which actually heightened its popularity.  Gayby Baby won best documentary at the 2016 Australian Film Critics Association Awards, scored first runner-up for best documentary at the 2015 Sydney Film Festival and was nominated for a 2016 AACTA Award for best feature-length documentary by the Australian Film Institute.

[Family Equality Council logo] By celebrating IFED, Family Equality Council and their partners across the globe raise awareness among politicians and the general public about the need for equal treatment and recognition for all families, regardless of the sexual orientation or gender identity of their family's members. In 2015 alone, they celebrated with partners in 32 countries and 67 cities.  FEC connects, supports, and represents the three million parents who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer in this country and their six million children.

More recently, because of Target's continued support of LGBT inclusivity, the Family Equality Council started the #standwithtarget campaign, serving as a place for people to support and thank Target for its stand on LGBT rights.  GLAAD supports this campaign and works nationwide against bills and proposed legislation that would weaken these rights.
