Monticello, Ark. — A Democratic Party convention is scheduled to select a candidate for a state House seat in southeastern Arkansas.

Delegates from Drew and Ashley counties will meet Thursday to choose from among three candidates for the seat left vacant by the recent death of Democratic Rep. Sheilla Lampkin.

Businessman Grant Pace of Monticello; Department of Human Services attorney LeAnne Pittman Burch of Monticello; and teacher Candace Jeffress of Crossett are seeking the Democratic nomination.

The candidate will appear on two ballots Nov. 8 — one for the general election and one to fill the remainder of Lampkin's term that expires in January.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/2aceaHJ ) that Republican nominee Jim Hall of Monticello also plans to run in the special election.
