As stars such as Bruce Springsteen and Ringo Starr lead the way in canceling concerts to protest North Carolina’s recent anti-LGBT law, Cyndi Lauper and Jimmy Buffett choose to use their influence in a different way.

Lauper is not canceling her upcoming show. Instead, she is donating the proceeds to charity. Jimmy Buffett will also not be canceling his upcoming shows.

“I think the best way I can do my part is to turn my show into an entire day to build public support to repeal HB2,” Lauper said, according to Billboard.com.

Lauper released a statement saying she will be donating all the profits from her upcoming concert in Raleigh to Equality North Carolina in an effort to repeal the anti-trans bathroom law.

Buffett called HB2 a “stupid law” and compared it to marijuana consumption on his website, Margaritavilla.com, saying, “I played many shows years ago, in many states where you could go to prison for 20 years for smoking a joint.... [That also] was a stupid law based on stupid assumptions.”

He went on, “I am not going to let stupidity or bigotry trump fun for my loyal fans this year.”

Lauper is a particularly long-standing ally of the LGBT community.
