Daylight savings plan shot down by Oklahoma Senate panel

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A plan to put Oklahoma on daylight savings time all year long has been soundly defeated in the Oklahoma Senate, but the issue may not be dead.

The Senate General Government Committee voted 6-1 against the bill by Oklahoma City Republican Sen. Ervin Yen.

However, a similar measure narrowly passed a House committee earlier this month and could be heard by the full House.

Yen says he introduced the bill at the request of a constituent and that he likes the idea of not having to change his clocks twice a year. Two other states — Arizona and Hawaii — do not observe daylight savings time.

Several members of the committee voiced concern the bill could jeopardize some federal funding.
