With spring quickly approaching, many gay athletes are dusting off their cleats and getting ready to hit the softball diamonds. This month, the Sooner State Softball Association (SSSA) continues recruitment events for both divisions: competitive (C) and recreational (D). From the first time player to the seasoned veteran, there are divisions to accommodate every player level.

The SSSA, Oklahoma City’s LGBT softball league, was founded to provide an outlet for gay and gay friendly softball players to engage in friendly competition and build camaraderie.

On Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., prospective and returning players can meet at Wheeler Park to learn softball fundamentals or hone their skills in a safe, fun environment. Grab your glove and cleats, and check it out. Organizers say you may just leave with some prizes.

“We provide a chance for players to connect with others through gay softball. It does not matter skill level, age, or competitive nature. There is a place for everyone,” said public relations officer, Andy Reza. “We want a place where the community can come together in fellowship. Even if you are unable to play, you should come watch. It is a great time.”

SSSA is part of the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA), the largest LGBT sports association in North America with 14,000 members across 43 states. Teams playing in the SSSA compete annually for a berth to the Gay Softball World Series and compete in tournaments throughout the country.

Anyone interested in playing, sponsoring, or getting involved with the league should contact Andy Reza, Public Relations Officer, at Andy.Reza@gmail.com or check out the league website at www.soonerstatesoftball.com or find them on Facebook.
