Inauguration Day Schedule
Today is both Inauguration day for President Obama and Vice-President Biden, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, honoring the slain civil rights leader. The Inauguration ceremony, the parade and other events will be covered throughout the day on network and cable TV news channels.
Inaugural events - time listed in Central Standard Time
10:30 a.m. The president and vice president will be sworn in the traditional ceremonial swearing in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol that is open to the public. Note: Per tradition, the event is hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies and media credentials for this event are issued by the Senate Media Galleries. NOTES: Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor will administer the oath of office for Vice President Joseph Biden. Myrlie Evers-Williams will deliver the invocation. The Rev. Luis Leon of St. John's Church will give the benediction. Beyonce will sing the national anthem, Kelly Clarkson will perform "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and James Taylor will sing "America the Beautiful". Inaugural poet Richard Blanco.
1:35 p.m. Inaugural Parade. Location: Viewing stands and bleachers are lined along Pennsylvania Avenue.
5 p.m. The Commander in Chiefs Inaugural Ball. Pooled press. Location: Washington Convention Center. Perfomers to include: Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Chris Cornell, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson and Marc Anthony will perform at the Commander-in-Chiefs Ball. The balls are also available for military personnel at www.pentagonchannel.mil.
5:30 p.m. Official Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center - Halls A, B and C. Open press. 7 p.m. start for Halls D and E, which will be pooled press. Performers include: At The Inaugural Ball, Alicia Keys, Black Violin, Brad Paisley, Far East Movement, FUN., members of the Glee cast, John Legend, Katy Perry, Mana, Smokey Robinson, Soundgarden, Stevie Wonder and Usher will perform on multiple stages.
