Local Reproductive Justice Group hosts free screening of “Trapped”

Tulsa, OK, August 31 – The All Souls' Reproductive Justice team is hosting a free screening of Trapped on Friday, September 16 at 6 p.m. at All Souls Church in Tulsa. The screening is free and open to the public. Dr. Willie Parker, a physician featured in the film, and local reproductive justice professionals host a panel discussion following the film.

The gripping documentary, directed by Dawn Porter, follows clinic workers and lawyers in the battle to keep abortion safe and legal for American women.

Dr. Willie Parker, OB-GYN is nationally known for providing abortion care because of his Christian faith; Brandie Haddan, Clinical Director, Reproductive Services of Tulsa; Karo Chowning, Oklahoma Coalition for Reproductive Justice; and Tamya Cox, Lobbyist and Attorney, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland will host a panel discussion following the film.

All Souls Reproductive Justice Committee Chair, Heather Palacios, hopes the event will attract people from all over Tulsa and the surrounding areas. "We have a unique platform at All Souls to be able to draw attention to the social issues of our time, provide learning opportunities, and foster healthy dialogue in an open, accepting environment."

Dr. Willie Parker is featured in the documentary and is one of the only doctors who provide abortions and reproductive care at The Pink House - the last remaining abortion clinic in Mississippi. He has been interviewed by The New York Times, Esquire magazine, and many other news outlets about his role as a Christian and a OB-GYN in lifting the social consciousness about abortion and as an advocate for women's reproductive rights.

"People are less unsettled by the fact that I provided abortion care than they are by the fact that I provided abortion care and claim a Christian identity," Dr. Parker said in an interview with All Souls. "It's easier to dismiss me as a heathen and reprobate and it made my position logical and understandable as someone who provided abortion if I didn't claim a faith identity."

All Souls Church is located at 2952 S. Peoria Ave in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

All Souls Unitarian Church was established in 1921 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and offers three distinct services each Sunday - Traditional service at 10:00 a.m., the Contemporary service at 11:30 a.m., and the Humanist Hour at 11:30 a.m. The 2000+ member congregation adopted a vision for the All Souls' centennial in 2021.
