Love that 50s music? You’ll love Grease!
(Springfield, MO) Here is Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck tailed, hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys” and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in the rollicking musical Grease. Springfield Little Theatre brings Grease to their stage September 11 through October 4.
Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’“, “It’s Raining on Prom Night“, and “Alone at the Drive-In Movie” recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation.
An 8-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals along with innumerable school and community productions place Grease among the world’s most popular musicals. The musical, which debuted in 1971, and opened on Broadway in 1972, was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The pair wrote the book, the music and the lyrics. Springfield Little Theatre’s production is directed by Beth Bomann, with choreography by Andy Willadsen, and Music directed by Susan Gravatt.
It stars James Brandon Martin as Danny Zuko, and Katie Beth Nichols as Sandy Dumbrowski. The cast also features Marty Chaney as Miss Lynch, Darby Vincent as Patty Simcox, Bailey Diehl as Eugene Florczyk, Zoe Zelonky as Jan, Lora Sorenson as Marty, Kayleen Spear as Betty Rizzo, Colton Taff as Doody, Clayton Avery as Roger, Chris Stanford as Kenickie, Josh Powell as Sonny LaTierri, Sisilia Schaffer as Frenchy, Michael Coniff as Vince Fontaine, Maceo Cortezz as Johny Casino, Christine West as Cha-Cha DiGregorio, and Derrick Devonne King as Teen Angel.
