Man arrested in connection with Harlem bar’s Pride flag burning
The NYPD arrested a man Tuesday accused of setting fire to Pride flags outside a Manhattan gay bar twice in the past few months, according to SpectrumNY1 news.
The man, Tyresse Singleton, 20, is being charged with a hate crime and arson.
Surveillance video showed a man, whom police said was Singleton, setting fire to a Pride flag outside the Alibi Lounge in Harlem early Monday morning.
The same thing happened in the same location on May 31, a day before the start of Pride month. That incident, like Monday’s incident, was also caught on surveillance cameras.
Officials said on one occasion the suspect burned the flag while people were inside, but no injuries were reported in either incident.
Right after the incident, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he would assign a task force to investigate the hate crime.
