Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs earns honors

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas science museum is being honored for its community service.

The Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs is one of 10 museums and libraries honored with the 2016 National Medal for Museum and Library Service.

The Sentinel-Record reports (http://bit.ly/1r0cR6t ) that the museum will be honored during a ceremony at the White House on Wednesday by first lady Michelle Obama and Kathryn Matthew, who is director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Mid-America will be represented by Executive Director Diane LaFollette and museum board chairman Brian Gehrki.

The medal is the highest award given to U.S. museums and libraries for service to the community.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 35,000 museums.
