DURHAM, N.H. (AP) — Gov. Maggie Hassan is speaking at the University of New Hampshire's 21st annual gay pride pancake breakfast.

Tuesday's breakfast is a UNH tradition built on the work of the university's first gay student organization in the 1970s. Today, the event recognizes those who continue to build a more welcoming campus and community.

This year's breakfast will feature a conversation on how current legislation for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights may be seen as a movement toward civil rights for all, not just for a small population group. Organizers say Hassan is first New Hampshire governor to attend the breakfast.

The breakfast is at 7:45 a.m. in the Memorial Union Building.
