Little Rock, Wichita to enjoy An Evening With David Sedaris
David Sedaris is neither politically nor socially correct.
Sedaris is known for his sardonic wit and no-holds barred commentary. His appearances on NPR and his best-selling books such as Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim and Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls have earned him legions of fans. Sedaris’ next book, Theft By Finding, a collection of his diaries, will be released in June.
Sedaris is coming to Little Rock and Wichita for An Evening With David Sedaris.
If you know David Sedaris and you’re a fan, this is a must-see event. If you aren’t a fan, a side-splitting evening of wit and stories will make you one.
With his wit and incisive social critiques, Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today.
Writing for Ohio State University’s The Lantern when Sedaris was there for an evening, Nina Budeiri said, “Sedaris had the packed crowd in roaring-belly laughter for nearly two hours straight …. Sedaris’ essays are blunt and sometimes shocking, often reflecting on his childhood and early-adulthood experiences.
“But more recently he seems to be writing (and reading) to update his readers about his current life.”
Fort Worth writer Amy Martin, writing in Theaterjones.com, which covers North Texas performing arts news, said, “Much of An Evening with David Sedaris involved tales of travel peppered with some surprisingly lewd jokes. We are all voyeurs to Sedaris’s journeys, both interior and peripatetic, which can make his shows startlingly current. Honest and insightful, sardonic and yet kind, Sedaris is arch about his fellow travelers, even as he dissects the folly of their behaviors.”
Sedaris is likely to talk about anything, including moving to Paris with his partner Hugh Hamrick. He may even talk about same-sex marriage. He’s been quoted saying he and Hamrick are the, “sort of couple who wouldn’t get married.” They now live in West Sussex, England.
An Evening With David Sedaris will be at Little Rock’s Robinson Performance Hall, April 21, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25-$43 and are available online at TicketMaster.com, by phone at (501) 244-8800 or in person at the Performance Hall box office 426 West Markham St. in Little Rock, AR 72201.
