Equality Day at Oklahoma Capitol set for Wednesday
Staff report
The Equality Network (TEN) in a report to its members, said, “the Oklahoma Legislature is back in session and we are closely monitoring several bills. We are relieved that there are none that seek to harm the LGBT community -- and pleased that a few representatives are working to make our schools safer for all youth.”
TEN’s legislative priorities this year focus mainly on safe schools and bullying. They will keep members updated throughout the session for advocacy alerts, urging contact with your representatives when certain bills are facing votes. They promise “We will also remain vigilant to ensure that no anti-LGBT amendments or resolutions are introduced as the session proceeds.”
On Wednesday, March 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., TEN will hold its fourth Annual LGBT Equality Day at the State Capitol. Participants will meet at 9:00 a.m. in Room 25 on the first floor for an hour of lobbying training and will provide guidance on how to lobby for specific pieces of legislation.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. in the First Floor Rotunda. “We hope that you will join us for this exciting, empowering day. Be on the watch for registration information via our eblasts and on our Facebook page,” TEN said.
