Norman organizes second annual Pride event

Norman Pride is hosting their second annual Pride Festival and Parade in Norman, Oklahoma. The event will be May 3-5 with the theme “United in Pride.”

Norman Pride Weekend is an all-ages, family-friendly event to celebrate the diversity which organizers say defines the city of Norman.

Norman’s official motto is "Building an Inclusive Community."

“The weekend will kick off on Main Street Friday Night with music, food trucks and drinks, kids' games, and a ribbon cutting ceremony from 5-10 p.m. and is co-hosted by Norman's Downtown Association,” say organizers.

Norman Pride continues Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. till 11 p.m. with a festival co-hosted by the Campus Corner Association. Saturday’s festivities will be all-day beginning at 10 a.m. on Campus Corner and will feature live entertainment, artist, vendor, and nonprofit booths, a dedicated kids' area, and family-friendly activities. Vendors are set to close their booths at down at 8 p.m., but the “party will continue until 11 p.m.”

On Sunday, May 5, from 4-9 p.m., the weekend will conclude with the Norman Pride parade on Main Street. The pre-parade party begins at 4 p.m. with family activities, including face painting and henna tattoos. Parade check-in is at 6 p.m. at The Depot on Jones, and the parade starts at 7 p.m.

The best floats awards ceremony will be held at Bison Witches immediately following the parade.

Vendors, artists, and non-profit organizations are encouraged to set up booths at the festival on Saturday and to participate in the parade on Sunday. Online registration details are at www.normanOKpride.org/forms. Registration and payment deadline is April 25th.

Norman is located 20 miles south of downtown Oklahoma City. The city serves as the county seat of Cleveland County and is a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. According to the 2010 census, Norman's population was 110,925.
