Arkansas Democratic Party Chairman makes it official

It was with great pride and gratitude that I accepted the position of Chairman of the Democratic Party of Arkansas last weekend at our State Committee meeting in Springdale. I would like to thank Governor Beebe, Senator Pryor and Congressman Mike Ross for their faith in nominating me to this position, along with my long-time friend Greg Reep, whom I met through the Young Democrats years ago.

Make no mistake: we have lots of work ahead of us. Will you make a commitment today to get in the game by telling us how you would like to help in 2014? 

The Republicans have voted against Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for our children and seniors, equal pay for equal work, and the Violence Against Women Act. They claim to represent the people, but which people exactly are they referring to? It certainly isn’t the people of Arkansas.

Republicans have nationalized a local election, and we cannot allow them to do that again in this cycle. This election is not about people in Washington, it’s about people in Arkansas.

We have to come together and recognize that our future and the future of our children and grandchildren are on the line in 2014. If we can send 1,000 Arkansans around the country listening to Sheila Bronfman’s whistle to help elect President Clinton, surely we can organize local districts and send Arkansans to talk to other Arkansans.

We also have to recognize that we are going to get out-spent, and not by money from Arkansans. In the last two cycles, Republicans in Arkansas have benefitted from millions of dollars from out of state interest groups that cater to the wants of billionaires.

Together, we have to work to make this election about Arkansas, not about Washington. I’m excited to be working with all of you to accomplish this going forward.
