Annual march, rally builds upon NC Moral Mondays
Raleigh, N.C. (AP) — Several thousand people have gathered in Raleigh for an annual march and rally organized by North Carolina social advocacy and civil rights groups seeking change from state government and the governor.
Liberal-leaning citizens and groups are underscoring Saturday's "Moral March on Raleigh" following a year of demonstrations in opposition to the agenda approved by the Republican-led General Assembly and Gov. Pat McCrory.
Speakers near Shaw University delivered a litany of complaints about the GOP policies before the crowd made the short walk to the old Capitol. There, large video screens lined a downtown street so participants could see additional speakers.
Supporters of abortion rights, gay rights and public education were among the most visible. Planned Parenthood says buses with their supporters came from Georgia, Tennessee and Washington, D.C.
