Inhofe continues role as climate change denier
Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) is the most vocal climate change denier in the US Congress. He continues to try to find a mandate for changing the nation’s climate change initiatives, but finds roadblocks to his effort everywhere. The overwhelming majority of experts in the field say climate change is real, and is a threat to coastal cities worldwide. The US military says that climate change is a serious, worldwide threat to the United States’ security.
Most recently, Inhofe has tried to discern a message from voters on climate change in the results of the recent election, even though polls show that a 61 percent majority of Americans believe there is solid evidence that the earth has been warming. However, only 48 percent see it as a threat to the US, far behind threats from ISIS, Iran’s nuclear program, and North Korea’s nuclear program. Political analysts say the top priority of voters in the election was the economy.
President Obama has pledged $3 billion to the UN Green Climate Fund, which of course annoys Sen. Inhofe.
The senator released the following statement about the President’s action:
"President Obama’s pledge to give unelected bureaucrats at the U.N. $3 billion for climate change initiatives is an unfortunate decision to not listen to voters in this most recent election cycle. His climate change spending priorities, estimated to be $120 billion since the beginning of his Administration, were on the ballot, and Americans spoke.
“The President’s climate change agenda has only siphoned precious taxpayer dollars away from the real problems facing the American people. In a new Congress, I will be working with my colleagues to reset the misguided priorities of Washington in the past six years. This includes getting our nation’s debt under control, securing proper equipment and training to protect our men and women in uniform, and repairing our nation’s crumbling roads and bridges. These are the realistic priorities of today.”
