Lead plaintiff in gay marriage case returns to Ohio

Cincinnati (AP) — A Cincinnati native who was the lead plaintiff in the historic Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage has come back to his hometown to celebrate.

Jim Obergefell was greeted by cheers on Saturday at Cincinnati's pride parade.

The parade drew thousands of people who wanted to celebrate a day after same-sex couples won the right to marry nationwide in a landmark Supreme Court case.

Obergefell said people wanted him and other plaintiffs to stay in Washington D.C., but they wanted to come home.

He said earlier this week that he got ordained online in preparation to help with the surge of couples who would want to wed after the ruling.

Cleveland's pride parade was canceled Saturday because of expected heavy rains but will be rescheduled.
