Norman’s ‘Mothers of Many’ celebrates ruling
A local group, Mothers of Many, expressed its elation with Friday’s 10th Circuit Court ruling striking down Oklahoma’s state ban on same-sex marriage.
“This deeply impacts our families and our children. We are elated to hear the court shares our opinion that all of our children deserve the right to legally honor their marriages,” the group said in a statement.
“This important step in Oklahoma’s history will lead us to the day when our children who are LGBT will have the same recognition and protections for their families as other couples,” the group said in a statement released.
Mothers of Many is a coalition of Moms committed to nurturing hope, safety, justice and equality for our children who are LGBT.
“Our children — not the government — determine who they love and will commit to build a marriage and life with. Today’s ruling puts — at a minimum — a stop to the discriminatory Oklahoma law that says it is a crime to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple,” MOM said.
“Until today there has been no legal union of any type available, under Oklahoma law, to same-sex couples in a committed relationship. Oklahoma law DID NOT recognize any legal status known as a ‘civil union’ or ‘domestic partnership’, it prohibited same gender marriages.”
