OACF to host World AIDS Day luncheon
The Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund (OACF) will host a luncheon to commemorate World AIDS Day and provide awareness about how Oklahomans are impacted by HIV and AIDS. The event will be held on November 15 at the UCO CHK Central Boathouse.
This year, the recipient of the Richard May Award, which is presented annually by OACF, will be Dr. Leonard Slater. Dr. Slater is an infectious disease specialist in Oklahoma City who is Board Certified in both infectious disease and internal medicine. He received his medical degree from NYU School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years.
The Richard May Award is named in memoriam for one of the original members of the Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund. May, along with founder Barbara Cooper and a small group of volunteers, founded OACF in 1991.
OACF will present Dr. Slater with the prestigious award during their World AIDS Day Luncheon.
Since its inception, OACF has awarded more than $13 million in grants to local agencies and over $1 million in emergency assistance to Oklahomans living with HIV and AIDS.
Every 30 hours, another Oklahoman is diagnosed with HIV.
The OACF luncheon will be on Friday, November 15, at the UCO CHK Central Boathouse, 732 Riversport Drive in Oklahoma City, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
