OKC Pride Parade 2013 begins with a twister

Despite tornado alarms going off in the distance, the 2013 Oklahoma City Pride Parade stepped off on time on last month.
Funnel clouds were seen in the sky and literally, 14 minutes before the parade was to begin, the tornado alarms went off.
Keeping the saftey of every spectator and participant in mind, OKC Pride organizers and the OKC Police Department continued to keep a very close eye on the storms. In this age of smartphones, spectators remained well aware of where each funnel clouds was forming or landing that afternoon.
Everyone knows May is tornado month and sadly, the very next day is when the second largest Twister in Oklahoma City’s history ripped through its suburb of Moore, killing 24, injuring many more and leaving billions of dollars of damage in its path.
We’re glad all were safe at OKC Pride as we keep those affected in the other storms in our thoughts. Much fundraising is going on in our gay community for those affected.
