OkEq’s Wild Heart’s Ball goes black

Not a name change...just color. Valentine’s Day can be painful for so many, and who needs to be reminded they are alone? So Oklahomans for Equality (OkEq) just one-upped ole’ Cupid.
“No one wants to steal Valentine’s from lovers but we want to soften the impact of singleness,” said Toby Jenkins, Executive Director OkEq. “We feel there should be a ‘singles’ awareness day’ also.”
Jenkins said he thought the rock band Queen’s Freddy Mercury said it best with "Find somebody to love me," and that many are still looking.
“It is the Wild Hearts Ball dressed in Black Hearts drag,” Jenkins adds. “Black is the color code; not red. So anything that is anti-cupid. Dress crazy, dress in costume or dress like a couch potato, dress like a dumped prom date...or just dress like you do every day.”
Jenkins wants everyone to come to OkEq and know they are accepted and will feel ‘loved.’
The event will be held on February 14th, from 7:30 – 10:30pm at OkEq, 621 E. 4th St. in Tulsa. There is no admission to the event. There will be a D.J. playing music, a cash bar and yummy finger foods.
“The Pride Gift Shop will have some great bargains that night and all of the proceeds support the work of the Equality Center,” Jenkins said in conclusion. We’ll also have raffle prizes so bring plenty of cash and your credit cards!”
