Oklahoma House passes bill to appropriate some agency funds

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A bill that would allow the state of Oklahoma to appropriate some funds from agencies for general revenue is headed to the state Senate, even though it wouldn't cover the state's $1.3 billion budget shortfall for 2017.

The bill passed the House of Representatives Monday and drew praise from Gov. Mary Fallin. Fallin said in a statement Monday the bill could free up about $125 million annually for general revenue.

If it becomes law, it would deposit the balances of each state agency revolving fund into a special fund to be certified annually by the State Board of Equalization beginning with the 2018 fiscal year budget.

State agency directors would be entitled to protest the deposits under the proposal.
