Paseo’s “First Friday” is all about the heart

February's Paseo 'First Friday Gallery Walk,' coincides with 'National Wear Red Day for Women' and focuses on heart health awareness.

Heart health awareness, juried art exhibition to combine at Feb. 7 Gallery Walk

For the third year in a row, the Paseo Arts Association (PAA) will work with the Oklahoma Heart Hospital to celebrate artwork by the PAA’s diverse membership and encourage awareness of women’s heart health issues. The event will coincide with National Wear Red Day for Women.

The event begins at 1pm with a press conference at a.k.a. Gallery at 3001 Paseo, in OKC’s Paseo District with the announcement of the 2014 Heart Hero Awards. The awards are given to honor ordinary Oklahomans who stepped out of their safety zone to save a life using CPR.

The event will continue that evening with a unique edition of the monthly First Friday Gallery Walk in Paseo from 6-10pm, including the annual PAA Members Show Opening Reception at 3022 Paseo. The Members Show is a juried member exhibition showing the best original work created by the PAA’s 300+ membership. It represents media from painting and photography to jewelry, ceramics, and glass. Artists submitting work to the Members Show were encouraged to include the theme color (red) in their works.

In addition to the Members Show reception, Gallery Walk attendees will be able to visit more than twenty galleries along Paseo; collect heart health information, free cookbooks, and red "Wear Red for Women" pins; and enjoy art exhibitions and district-wide window decorations at different galleries that each features the color red.
