Reduxion Theatre Company presents “Henry V”
Oklahoma City - Reduxion Theatre Company will produce William Shakespeare’s famous history play, Henry V, in May. The play is about the life of England’s King Henry V.
King Henry ruled England from 1413 to 1422 and was at one point the heir-apparent to the throne of France as well. “We will present the show in period dress,” said Executive/Artistic Director and Henry V director Tyler Woods. This is a departure for Reduxion, known for re-imagining classics in different time periods. “We are so excited to immerse ourselves in the history of this important play; this includes 15th century-style costumes, battle armor, historic weaponry, etc.”
“Though this play is a period piece, it is still raw and visceral,” said Woods. Henry V is one of the first pieces of literature to deal frankly with the realities of war.
A history play, Henry V is considered one of Shakespeare’s masterpieces. The play contains the famous lines, “O, for a muse of fire;” “Once more unto the breach;” and “Band of Brothers;” as well as the famous St. Crispin’s Day speech.
Thirteen actors make up the company. Andrew Rathgeber plays Henry V, Rachael Barry plays “Princess Catherine” of France and Sam Bearer plays the war hero “Duke of Exeter.” Costume design is by Jeffrey Meek.
Performances run through May 31, every Friday beginning May 9 at 8pm, every Saturday beginning May 10 at 8pm, and Sunday May 18 and 25 at 2pm. Performances will be at the company’s new space, 914 North Broadway Ave., in Oklahoma City’s Automobile Alley. Tickets are $22 for adults, $18 for seniors and military, and $16 for students under 25-years-old with I.D.
