Shadid mayoral kick-off event this week

OKC’s Ward 2 Councilman Dr. Ed Shadid has proven to be a very popular politician. He not only won the seat, he did so against a candidate backed by millions of dollars (Shadid had raised just over $100,000). Shadid was elected in the April 5th, 2011 general municipal election and was sworn in as Ward 2 councilman the following week on April 12th, 2011.
Ed Shadid announced in mid-June that he will run for mayor in 2014. This may set up a face-off with the sitting OKC Mayor, Mick Cornett. Cornett has been re-elected three times, but has said he will not decide until later this summer if he will seek a fourth term.
The popular candidate will host a kick-off event fundraiser on August 15th for his mayoral campaign and everyone is invited.
Shadid said in a video that he planned a “campaign emphasizing honesty; transparency; unprecedented public participation; and neighborhood interests over special interests.”
Ed has marched in the OKC Pride parades, joined hands with OKC Pride and the rest of the community in forming the 39th Street Improvement Project and has been referred to as the “Architect of Oklahoma City anti-discrimination.”
On November 15, 2011 the Oklahoma City Council was led by Shadid in voting 7-3 in favor of a measure which would extend employment discrimination protections to gay and lesbian city employees. It was a great victory for the OKC LGBT community.
Councilman Shadid was born and raised in Oklahoma, and members of the Shadid family have been practicing medicine since statehood. Councilman Shadid has been practicing medicine at his clinic, Spine Care of Oklahoma, since 2002. As a physician and father of three, Councilman Shadid is committed to improving the quality of life for the people of Oklahoma City.
The kick-off event will be held on August 15 at the OKC Farmers Public Market at 311 S. Klein Ave in OKC from 6 to 8 pm. The Oklahoma City Mayoral election will be March 4, 2014.
For city questions, Councilman Shadid may be reached at 405-297-2402 or by email at ward2@okc.gov.
