Stage Door announces auditions for the musical “The Full Monty”

The Full Monty - a cult classic.

Two nights of auditions kick off on July 13 - The Stage Door will open its 2015-2016 season in September with the fun and bawdy musical, The Full Monty.

Show dates for this “ladies night out” romp are September 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, and 20.

Auditions are set for Monday and Tuesday evening, July 13 and 14 from 7-10 p.m. at the theater, located at 601 Oak Avenue in Yukon.  Call-backs will be Wednesday, July 15 from 7-10 p.m., as well.

Those interested in the auditioning process need to come prepared with 16 bars of a “musical theatre” type number.  They may use an accompaniment cd or sing acappella (The Stage Door hopes to have an accompanist for those auditioning and bringing sheet music). The remainder of the audition will consist of cold readings from the script and a simple movement exercise/choreography.  The musical/acting part of auditions will take place from 7-9:30 p.m. each night with the movement exercise running from 9:30-10:00 p.m.  There are some roles that don’t require any singing and very little movement, so don’t let not being musical stop you from auditioning!!

Those auditioning should bring a copy of their theater resume and a headshot.  If no headshot is available, one can be taken at the theater for a minimal $1.00 charge.  Also, please bring a list of your conflicts from July 17th through close of show on September 20th.  Rehearsals will be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday evenings from 7-10 p.m.

The play features a cast of 6 men, ages 25 to 55, that can sing and dance and are willing to strip down to boxers. These characters are unemployed mill workers.  You don’t have to be lean and buff - looking for all sizes. You also don't need to be a professional singer or dancer, but should be able to carry a tune and have somewhat of a sense of rhythm.

Also looking for seven women who can sing and dance.  Again, the characters are mostly "housewives" and their friends, so looking for all looks and appropriate age matches for their husbands. Cast also includes one adolescent boy who looks to be about 12 or so and one man willing to be the Professional Stripper.  Must be willing to strip down to a bikini swim suit and must have a sense of rhythm.

Lastly, the cast includes one woman who is of an “indeterminate” age and is any size and two men who don't need to sing or dance (aged 30 and up).

“The Full Monty” is being directed by Doug Carlton.  He is new to the director’s chair, but has many years of theatre experience.  Stage Door regulars will remember him as the cantankerous sheriff, Ed Earl Dodd from “The Best little Whorehouse in Texas,” and most recently, the singing hired hand Robert Ireton in “Caddie Woodlawn.”  The Stage Door is excited to see what he can bring to this show.  Any audition questions or conflicts should be directed to Carlton at 405-596-6284 or Furrface1@aol.com

"The Full Monty" - A group of out-of-work factory workers discover that while everyone else’s financial security is going down the drain, a local bar in town that features male strippers is going great guns.  The women (who are now the main breadwinners because their husbands are out of work), need some place to let off a little steam and this strip joint seems to be it!!  Jerry comes up with the idea that he and his buddies can do what the dancers are doing and they should be able to make some big bucks doing it!!  And that’s when the fun begins . . .
