Northwest Arkansas - The Walmart AMP in Rogers, Arkansas is set to continue a summer of  name entertainers  when platinum award winners Styx take the stage. The AMP is excited to announce Rock and Roll group Styx will perform An Evening with Styx on Thursday, September 1.

At the height of their commercial powers, Styx released a string of five platinum albums, including the #1 triple-platinum Paradise Theatre. After incessant touring, their national break came in 1975 with the #6 single Lady, featuring the blaring vocal triads that are a Styx trademark. From 1977 until their breakup in 1984, every one of their releases sold platinum or better: The Grand Illusion in 1977; Pieces of Eight (1978); Cornerstone in 1979; Paradise Theatre, and Kilroy Was Here in 1983.

In 1983, Styx toured 3,000-seat halls with a theatrical presentation of Kilroy Was Here, an anti-censorship concept album that included the hit singles Mr. Roboto and Don't Let It End. In 1984, the group members went their separate ways for a while. Members Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw, who had written most of Styx's music, each embarked on initially auspicious solo careers.

Four members of Styx, with newcomer Glen Burtnik, released the comeback Edge of the Century in the fall of 1990. Its Show Me the Way became somewhat of a theme song during the Gulf War and Love at First Sight became a Top 30 single the following year.

In the spring of 2003, a new studio album featuring newcomer Larry Gowan was released. For Cyclorama, Styx consisted of Shaw, Young, Burtnik, Sucherman and Gowan. The album also featured guest appearances from John Waite, Brian Wilson and actor Billy Bob Thornton.

The two-disc Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology album from 2004 did an excellent job representing the band's career, while 2005's The Complete Wooden Nickel Recordingscollected the band's first four albums. That same year, Styx released the cover version-filled Big Bang Theory, featuring some of their favorite picks from the Great Rock Songbook.

The performance is September 1. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and music will begin at 7:30 p.m. Prices range from $31 to $55.50 plus applicable fees.

Tickets for these performances can be purchased in person at the Walton Arts Center Box Office in Nadine Baum Studios, by calling (479) 443-5600 or by visiting www.WaltonArtsCenter.org.
