TahlEquality to host ‘Why Marriage Matters’ town hall meeting

TahlEquality, in conjunction with Freedom Oklahoma, hosts Tahlequah's first town hall meeting on "Why Marriage Matters," tonight, September 9, at the Dream Theater, 7pm.

TahlEquality, a recently formed LGBTQ2 advocacy group in Tahlequah, OK, in conjunction with Freedom Oklahoma, is hosting the city’s first town hall meeting on “Why Marriage Matters” on September 9. Freedom Oklahoma plans to go to 13 Oklahoma communities, presenting information about same-sex marriage in a candid, open forum. The meeting includes an LGBTQ2 panel that will share their personal stories on why marriage matters to them, and a Q&A session after the panel discussion.

The event will be Tuesday, September 9, at the Dream Theater, on Tahlequah’s north end, at 7pm.

TahlEquality is also hosting a first ever ‘Gay Pride River Festival’ at the Sparrow Hawk Resort, September 26-28. They expect up to 700 people to attend the event. The organization will be opening their membership to the public at the River Festival, and a newly forming Tahlequah PFLAG chapter will also be seeking members.

Carden Crow, the group’s president, credits the group’s success to 10 great board members, and to allies in the local community. She said, “We have tremendous support from our allies in Tahlequah, not only for the Pride picnic in June, but in organizing for the town hall meeting, and the River Festival. “ For more information on both events, Facebook events have been set up.
