Tulsa superintendent donates bonus to school foundation
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The superintendent of the Tulsa school system says she is giving her $25,000 performance bonus to a foundation to help the district's teachers.
The Tulsa World reported (http://bit.ly/1Z0oKVL ) that, after the Tulsa School Board agreed to give Superintendent Deborah Gist her bonus, Gist said it was appropriate to pass the money on to the Foundation for Public Schools. She said that with Oklahoma teacher salaries being so low generally, it was "the least I could do."
Gist has a three-year contract with the board. If she receives certain marks on her annual appraisal, she earns a $25,000 bonus.
Tulsa's school system has cut revenues by $4 million this year amid a state "revenue failure." It also has trimmed next year's budget by $13.5 million, in part by eliminating 270 jobs.
