Two victories for LGBT Olympians this week as both British race walker Tom Bosworth and Italian swimmer Rachele Bruni professed their love for their same-sex partners.
According to LGBTQ Nation, Bosworth proposed to his longtime boyfriend, Harry Dineley, on a beach in Rio de Janiero, and Dineley accepted.
Bosworth, who came out last year, currently holds three British Records in his sport and is ranked number one in the UK for 20km race walking.
Dineley and Bosworth took to Twitter to celebrate and share their happy news.
Bosworth wasn’t the only LGBT Olympian with a relationship in the news this week.
Italy’s swimmer Rachele Bruni came out publicly after taking the silver in the nearly two hour long women’s 10km swimming marathon.
She used the opportunity to dedicate her medal to her girlfriend, Diletta Faina, according to Outsports.
In an interview afterwards at the Italian House in Rio, Bruni said, “I’ve never done a big coming out. Undoubtedly there are people who have too many prejudices, but I live peacefully. I do not think about the prejudices, I live for myself, for my passion for swimming and for the people who love me."
