Voter registration nears for Oklahoma's primary
Oklahoma City (AP) — Oklahoma residents who want to vote in the June 24 primary election have until Friday to register.
Voter registration forms are available at each county election board, post offices, tag agencies and libraries, or can be downloaded from the Oklahoma State Election Board website.
Residents who wish to vote must either register in person or have their applications postmarked before Friday's deadline. To find out where your county Election Board is located, go to: http://www.ok.gov/elections/documents/cebinfo.pdf.
Oklahoma has a closed primary system, where Republicans and Democrats can only vote for candidates of their particular party.
When registering to vote, individuals can select Republican, Democrat, No Party (Independent) or write in a political party. If the written-in party is not recognized in Oklahoma, that voter is registered as an independent voter.
If you need to change your name, your address or your political affiliation, you must fill out another voter registration application form. You may change your registration at any time with one exception. You may not change your political affiliation during the period from April 1 through August 31, inclusive, in any even-numbered year. The last day on which you may change your political affiliation before the closed period is March 31; the first day on which you may change your political affiliation after the closed period is September 1.
